Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, along with his press secretary Jordan Abudayyeh have earned praise from pro-mask and pro-vaccine folks for shutting down a local talk show host who interrupted a press conference and began pushing false and dangerous COVID-denier talking points. Pritzker was speaking to reporters on his recent reinstatement of the state-wide mask mandate in response to the latest COVID-19 pandemic surge when Amy Jacobson started yelling about student parents and how the governor should work to reassure them.

As soon as Jacobson let out the false claim that students are low-risk for COVID-19, something that has become dangerously untrue with the delta variant but was never true for all students, Abudayyeh shut it down.

“There were protests out here this morning and parents were crying, screaming like ‘oh my God,’ you know as governor, you should try and calm people’s nerves maybe or [unintelligible] because there are low-risk groups, students are,” says Johnson.
Abudayyeh was likely familiar with Johnson’s radio rhetoric as the host didn’t even get out the falsehood all the way before the press secretary was on her.
“Amy, as a supposed reporter, you should probably stop the misinformation,” she said. “We are done here, thank you. Do you know how you stop schools from being closed? You stop complaining about mask-wearing.”
Pritzker initially thanked Abudayyeh for her swift takedown, but when Johnson began with some vague whining about studies, he couldn’t resist taking the podium again to excoriate her for her dedication to misinformation.
“I am going to take the podium again and just respond to that. Let me just say this: You are spreading misinformation,” said Pritzker. “I wish you would stop spreading misinformation. You come in here with a political agenda, and you spread misinformation, and I just think you should stop.”
“We now need to protect our children, we need to protect the people in our communities … you are working against that and it is extremely upsetting for all of us who are trying to keep the rest of the state safe.”
Jacobson has claimed not to be anti-mask but to want parents to be able to make the decision as to whether their kids are allowed to run around spreading viruses to other people’s kids and then to their parents and who knows how many others. She also frequently spreads falsehoods about CDC studies and their general attitude on masks, trying to frame them as being on the fence when they have continued to say that masks are effective for a year and a half now.

People are tired of it, and they’re making it clear by thanking Pritzker and Abudayyeh for doing something to stop the misinformation in its tracks.
