Republicans are still apparently struggling to get the message that you should not compare anything to the Holocaust, particularly things that are not even close to the same level as an organized genocide campaign such as the decision of restaurants to require patrons to be vaccinated. This time, it’s Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie who made this exact comparison, posting an image of a wrist with a series of numbers tattooed on it in the style of Nazis tattooing Jewish people during their reign.

“If you have to carry a card on you to gain access to a restaurant, venue, or an event in your own country… that’s no longer a free country,” the text reads.

The image tweeted by Massie was eventually deleted, but not before getting nearly 4,000 likes and 1,500 retweets after he posted it on Wednesday. He has not addressed the tweet or why it was deleted but has continued to push anti-vaxxer content on his account while attempting to insist that he’s not an anti-vaxxer.

Massie, an avid anti-vaxxer and COVID-denier, is apparently unfamiliar with the concept of ID cards required by venues such as bars and 18+ concerts for entry — the same kind of ID cards he insists need to be carried by people looking to vote in U.S. elections. It’s difficult to believe that he was unfamiliar with the typical backlash that happens against public figures who make these kinds of antisemitic comparisons in spite of this happening to several of his Republican colleagues in recent months.

In June, notorious conspiracy theory peddler and representative for Georgia Marjorie Taylor Greene had to give a public apology after being made to visit the Holocaust Museum because she also compared vaccine requirements to one of the most well-known examples of genocide in human history. Before that, Rep. Madison Cawthorn was resoundingly trashed for using that famous poem about the Holocaust to sell masks with the word “useless” printed on them.

In addition to the antisemitism, Massie has used his Twitter account to push falsehoods and fearmongering about the COVID-19 vaccine, suggesting that people are being forced to take it rather than simply being excluded from some venues for the sake of public safety. He has also continued to refer to these exclusions as violations of human rights, conveniently forgetting the former staunch Republican opinion that private businesses should be able to do whatever they want, including depriving same-sex couples of wedding cakes for the sake of homophobia.

While he may get away with this when it comes to his die-hard Republican fans, others on Twitter are not about to let him pretend he didn’t tweet an antisemitic Holocaust image.

Others are attempting to introduce Massie to the concept of driver’s licenses and club warehouse store membership cards.
