The Minnesota Department of Public Safety recently partnered with Valerie Castile to create a new kind of driving safety accessory.

They explained more in the official press release, and shared some of the pertinent information on Twitter as well:


It’s difficult to argue with a grieving mother like Valerie Castile, especially one whose son was murdered, as Philando was. But many are responding negatively to the idea of “showing their papers” to police. They think it’s unfair to burden citizens with the responsibility of not getting shot by mistake.

We wish there weren’t a need to still explain this to anyone. Without more serious reforms, it seems inevitable that the future will bring more needless death. And more tragedy for mothers like Valerie Castile.
