An old comment from Arnold Schwarzenegger explaining why people should get vaccinated is making the rounds again for its simple logic.

The former California governor was proud to get his first shot back in January, posting a video of the moment he drove up to the vaccination site in the hopes of encouraging others to believe it’s safe and effective.

“Today was a good day,” he wrote at the time. “I have never been happier to wait in a line. If you’re eligible, join me and sign up to get your vaccine. Come with me if you want to live!”

Today was a good day. I have never been happier to wait in a line. If you’re eligible, join me and sign up to get your vaccine. Come with me if you want to live!

Commenters were split in their responses, with some shaming him and expressing their disappointment that he would get vaccinated against a deadly and highly transmissible virus — or as several inaccurately put it, “a common flu virus.”

Schwarzenegger took the time to engage with some dissenters and ultimately posted a thoughtful comment in response to everyone still refusing to listen to science.

“I always say you should know your strengths and listen to the experts,” he wrote, noting that his own expertise is in bodybuilding. “We all have different specialties.

“Dr. Fauci and all of the virologists and epidemiologists and doctors have studied diseases and vaccines for their entire lives, so I listen to them and I urge you to do the same. None of us are going to learn more than them by watching a few hours of videos. It’s simple: If your house is on fire, you don’t go on YouTube, you call the damn fire department.”

Schwarzenegger went on to say that “virtually all of the real experts” have said the vaccine is safe and cautioned people against isolating themselves in a “rabbit hole of misinformation.”

“Some people say it is weak to listen to experts,” he wrote. “That’s bogus. It takes strength to admit you don’t know everything. Weakness is thinking you don’t need expert advice and only listening to sources that confirm what you want to believe.”

Unfortunately, too many people are too far gone, replying to Schwarzenegger’s sentiment with more false claims circulated on Facebook and insistences that more real doctors are against the vaccine than for it.

But others appreciated the common sense, even knowing how few minds it is likely to change at this point.

As one Twitter user put it: “Imagine telling someone in the ’80s that Arnold Schwarzenegger, from Commando, would someday be a calming voice of reason.”
