Whoever’s writing this season of America clearly has a “go big, or go home” approach to jokes involving bit characters’ names.

That’s got to be why a white, conservative man whose last name is literally a homonym for “boring” accused Barack Obama of “destroying rock & roll.”

There is literally no more plausible explanation for what you are about to see.

In the above clip from the Daily Wire, one of the men seated across from Jeremy Boreing jokes, “Rock & roll is a public health crisis.”

Boreing responds, “Rock & roll, yeah, rock & roll’s over. You’re still talking about rock & roll like Barack Obama didn’t happen. Honestly, it’s for another day, but Barack Obama destroyed rock & roll.”

“You’ve convinced me of this,” replies one of the men seated next to him in a semi-circle around a coffee table covered with open liquor bottles and half-full glasses.

“Well, so he [Obama] did something good,” the first man responds, as Boreing continues to insist. Everyone laughs except Boreing, who keeps pushing his point further.

“Rock and roll,” he insists with a straight face, “was about white male angst. White male teenage angst.” The other men incoherently murmur a chorus of general agreement.

“Then Barack Obama came along,” Boreing continues, “…and said, ‘Young white men aren’t allowed to have angst.’ You know, they’re not, basically, allowed to express their dissatisfaction, because they’re so…”

“Toxic,” offers one of the other men.

“Toxic,” Boreing affirms with a quick, sage nod. “And so, truly, rock & roll just stopped.”

The delusional (not to mention hateful, and latently racist) lunacy of Boreing’s remarks might leave some people speechless.

But thankfully, when you can’t find the words for something, often Twitter has found them for you, and reactions did not disappoint:

obama rock and roll, obama rock & roll, barack obama rock and roll, barack obama rock & roll
obama rock and roll, obama rock & roll, barack obama rock and roll, barack obama rock & roll
obama rock and roll, obama rock & roll, barack obama rock and roll, barack obama rock & roll
obama rock and roll, obama rock & roll, barack obama rock and roll, barack obama rock & roll
obama rock and roll, obama rock & roll, barack obama rock and roll, barack obama rock & roll

Some tweets had a slight edge of seriousness to them, pointing out Boreing’s erasure of many who have contributed to rock & roll—not only recently, but to its very genesis.

Several pointed out that Boreing’s conservative ilk are the ones who have killed all genres of music education in America.

And some just enjoyed the theater of it all. Which might or might not be a way of saying they were, well, speechless.
