Ted Cruz is getting called out on his hypocrisy yet again after applauding the gymnasts who initially came forward to file complaints of abuse against Larry Nasser and, yesterday, spoke out in the Senate against the FBI’s handling of the situation.

Cruz had nothing but encouraging words to say to the women who testified on Wednesday, going on about the “courage it took to come here today” and how “it’s making a difference in the lives of others.”
But his own track record standing by both Donald Trump — who had over two dozen complaints of sexual misconduct against him — and Brett Kavanaugh, along with his vehement support of the new Texas law prohibiting abortion after six weeks even in cases of rape, made his words fall short.

“The system failed you,” he said, later adding that “that system needs to change. That system needs to be held accountable so that this doesn’t happen again.”
Denouncing sexual abuse as “evil,” which Cruz did, simply wasn’t enough for his critics. If the system needs to change — and it does — then holding everyone accountable for sexual violence and abuses of power is part of that, rather than handwaving accusations away if doing so works in your favor politically.

And while access to necessary healthcare shouldn’t depend on whether or not someone is a rape victim, that Texas would hypothetically now allow a rapist to sue someone they impregnated for getting or trying to get an abortion gives Cruz even less authority to speak about sexual assault.
