Fox News hosts are having a hard time with Superman after DC opted to make a change to the fictional hero’s motto after all these years.

“Truth, Justice and the American Way” used to be one of the Man of Steel’s various slogans, and had been in use since the 1940s. But DC has gone ahead and changed up the end, opting for Superman to instead represent “Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow.”

While some folks are bummed that DC still hasn’t added an Oxford comma into the motto after all these years, the people over at Fox News are busy lamenting the downfall of America over something that happened with a fictional character — in other words, it must be Tuesday.

In a recent segment of Fox & Friends, Peter Hegseth complained that “we don’t know” what the new motto means, as if “a Better Tomorrow” is somehow more vague in 2021 than “the American Way,” when we live in a deeply divided society with incredibly different values and priorities than we had in the 1940s.

Meanwhile, Will Cain suggested someone simply create a comic book company “that buries DC.”

“You can create any type of company out there that actually reflects the views of the American people because increasingly these corporations have left behind the vast majority of their own consumers,” he claimed.

And co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy chose to focus on a familiar talking point for the right, insisting that this is part of American children’s “indoctrination” to hating America, simply because not everyone is buying into American exceptionalism the way past generations once did.

“If you’re not being taught to love America at a young age, it’s really hard to love America later,” she commented.

Change can be difficult for fans of long-running franchises like Superman, but the Fox News pearl clutching over what likely amounts to DC wanting to appeal more to an international fan base is such a blatant attempt at fearmongering with their base that it was difficult for Twitter not to mock them over it.

Even Dean Cain, who once played Superman, waded in to stir up drama.

Anyway, as much as the folks at Fox and their devoted disciples may want to cancel DC and Superman over the changes, it seems much more likely they’ll immediately forget about this entirely. Because ultimately, a little more inclusivity and a little less nationalism isn’t going to be the end of the world.
