In the years that followed, the meme has been used jokingly by anyone who feels “old,” out of touch, or generally in the dark regarding any sort of topical online exchange.

Well, in a world full of darkness, Steve Buscemi managed last weekend to be a shining light for all of us, when he dressed up as his own meme and handed out candy.

He also posed for selfies with fans.

Apparently, Elvis Costello was there too, which, if you ask us, was just gravy.

This also led to people recalling that Steve Buscemi is essentially a wonderful human being in general. He was a firefighter before he became an A-list actor; and, on 9/11, he went to his old firehouse to help out. He refused interviews on the subject, and didn’t allow photos to be taken.

He really just wanted to be a person helping other people. And he willingly risked his life to do so, at a time when many people of means were trying to figure out how to best insulate themselves with their wealth and privilege, because they were terrified.

Who would have thought that Nucky Thompson from Boardwalk Empire was such a nice guy after all?
