Senator Ted Cruz certainly had a normal one this weekend, being one of the first politicians to respond angrily to a puppet with a Twitter account claiming to have received a publicly available vaccine for COVID-19 and promoting the idea that it would help protect his puppet body as well as everyone else around him. Big Bird, perhaps the most iconic Sesame Street puppet, made this announcement on Saturday to the ire of a lot of right-wing adults that were not meant to be the program’s core demographic.

This included Cruz, of course, who called the tweet “government propaganda” in spite of the fact that the program now plays on HBO instead of on a free channel available to almost everyone, where it has promoted life-saving vaccines literally for decades.

In spite of the other fact that all of these people are vaccinated themselves and have probably already received at least one booster shot, Cruz and other Republicans and right-wing pundits flooded social media with claims of propaganda, child brainwashing, and saying “f— your parents” directly to kids’ faces.
Cruz in particular has not been able to let this go, continuing to subtweet about Big Bird and retweet cringe posts on the subject as recently as two hours before this article’s publication and more than two days after Bird’s initial tweet. The latest one suggests that what’s less stupid than listening to a puppet controlled and voiced by adults informed by the world’s leading health experts is listening to Joe Rogan, who famously called himself a moron for spreading COVID-19 misinformation instead of listening to health experts.
Cruz managed to tweet about Big Bird a total of nine times over the past 48 hours, including one with that creepy Big Bird busting through the door gif in a tweet that reads like what the kids like to call a “s–tpost.” However, based on Cruz’s other tweets about puppet propaganda, it seems as though Cruz is either being serious or trying to convince his voting base that he is, or in the best-case scenario, subtly mocking them.

Bizarrely, Cruz has already twisted the entire issue around like the world’s twistiest pretzel to claim that it’s liberals who have been “triggered” by this Big Bird tweet even though it likely would never have caught attention if he and his fellow far-right conspiracy mongers hadn’t called it “government propaganda” in the first place.
“Libs are really triggered by Big Bird,” he said in a tweet posting about how much he’s been trending on Twitter
That’s one way to highlight to the world how many millions of people hate your guts and want you out of office yesterday. He also retweeted an incredible headline from one of the various far-right rags he likes to slather all over his timeline literally reading “Ted Cruz TRIPLE trends as FROTHING libs have MELTDOWNS.”
In between his recent Big Bird obsession he’s totally not projecting out, Cruz has been busy blaming Biden for gas prices and demanding that the president doom future generations by pushing for more drilling, supporting wealthy people for refusing the vaccine, and whining that the liberals are the real racists. Our best guess as to the reasoning behind this baffling new obsession for Cruz is that he’s putting the idea that “all press is good press” to the ultimate test.
