Comedy is becoming a very divided world. We all like to laugh, but it seems like more and more people can only laugh when something horrible is being said about other people. And that’s kind of become a whole identity online, where it’s even worse because these “jokes” can be made anonymously.

Online feminist @emrazz found one of these jokes and decided to use it as an example of an ongoing issue in the comedy world.

“I want to talk about how misogyny is often framed as edgy jokes. I want to talk about how this guy is comparing battered women to dogs in an animal shelter and mocking how traumatized and easy to manipulate they are as a result. I want to talk about why men think this is funny,” she wrote.

The joke she shared was from an account called @TallBart that seems to make a lot of “jokes.” This one in particular is extremely gross. It compares women in a domestic violence shelter to dogs in a dog shelter. If you don’t get how that is messed up, then you have a lot in common with the people in comments, who @emrazz also screenshot a lot of.

And she noted that a lot of them either completely love the comparison, or are afraid to say outright that it’s messed up.

“I want to talk about how the internet is foaming at the mouth for this kind of content,” she said. “How men dive into the replies to participate like starving sharks diving onto a steak.”

She went on to say that the “old boys club” everyone talks about is actually alive and well amongst the very young.

I don’t think anyone replying to the domestic violence shelter “joke” cares much about winning over the trust of women.
