One of the strange things employers love to do is pit workers against one another. Although a logical person might suggest having a team that works well together and trusts one another is actually key to running a successful business and retaining employees, management frequently prefers to reinforce loyalty to the company at the expense of everything else.

Signage getting a lot of attention over on Reddit is a prime example of that, and it paints a very clear picture of the turmoil created by workplaces that think this way.

A picture shared to r/antiwork shows a notice posted at an unidentified place of work that reads, “WARNING! All employees must not eat during work hours!”

“Receive a $20 reward if you catch an employee eating during work hours!” it continues. “Employees with 3 warnings will be laid off with no exceptions.”

Having a three strikes rule against employees eating during work hours already seems wild enough — if your company is having that much of a problem with people eating on the job, it seems likely there’s a bigger issue going on. But offering an actual bounty for snitches willing to rat out their coworkers is next level.

For the most part, redditors were not amused at this latest empty display of power from a company focusing on all the wrong things.

People also had some suggestions for how to use the company’s own policy against them.

No matter what happens, it seems unlikely the employer in question is going to get the win they want out of this. Chill.
