The death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust has sent shockwaves through Hollywood. But some Republicans are using it as an opportunity to take a swing at Alec Baldwin for his political views, including Colorado representative Lauren Boebert.

Hutchins died last week after being shot by Baldwin with a gun being used as a prop on set in New Mexico. Details on what exactly happened and where the numerous safety measures that are supposed to be in place to prevent something like this broke down are still rolling in, but for now, her death appears to ultimately be a tragic accident brought on by poor working conditions on set.

Baldwin himself has publicly expressed remorse over what happened, and thus far, stories from set make it sound as if he was told the gun was safe.

But critics of the actor, who has previously been outspoken in favor of better gun control in the United States, have capitalized on this tragedy as an opportunity to mock Baldwin.

Boebert is one of those who have cruelly repurposed Baldwin’s old tweets to this end, sharing a screenshot of a tweet he wrote in 2014.

Her barbaric and inhuman response to a woman’s death and the suffering of all those coping with it was met with swift condemnation from people who actually have souls.

Boebert has, of course, doubled down on what she said, trying to frame this as “elites” vs people who want to defend themselves as guns, when the actual issue at hand is simply human decency.

And Boebert, unfortunately, has not been alone in making distasteful remarks about Hutchins’ death and Baldwin’s involvement.

Ghouls are always going to be ghouls, and using someone’s death to take swings at a person who is politically opposed to you to no tangible end goal other than cruelty for cruelty’s sake is undoubtedly nothing but ghoulish.
