Recently divorced Representative Madison Cawthorn had some thoughts to share on Monday about the state of the family in the U.S. and it went over about as well as Matt Gaetz saying anything about human trafficking. The pro-Trump congressman took a page from the classic Republican playbook for at least the past 70 years and accused “the left” of wanting to “destroy the nuclear family in America” in a single tweet that was just begging for a ratio.

Cawthorn announced in late 2021 that he and his wife would be getting a divorce after just eight months of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.” He married Instagram fitness “influencer” Cristina Bayardelle on the anniversary of the day he was paralyzed in a car crash in order to change his association with the date from “my saddest day” to “my favorite day.” Well.
Perhaps some of those irreconcilable differences included the fact that his ex-wife didn’t enjoy being reduced to “earthen vessels sanctified by almighty God” for baby-making. Regardless, Cawthorn notably failed to create his own nuclear family after launching a career as a sycophant for a man who would rather run around sexually assaulting women with impunity all day than spend time with any of the children from his multiple marriages.
These simple facts have many on Twitter wondering who gave Cawthorn the nerve to talk about the “nuclear family,” even if it is an entirely made-up relic from a time when the U.S. was flush on the spoils of war that clearly does nothing to create good people, judging by the entire Republican party.
