Mark Hamill has never been quiet about his distaste for President Trump, but now Joe Biden’s campaign is making it official. A video of the Star Wars actor reacting to clips of Trump is being run as a campaign ad for the Democratic candidate, and it’s just about everything you’d expect from Hamill.
“I don’t know about you, but after four years of this administration, I’m exhausted!” he begins, before launching right into watching clips of the president.
The first clip features Trump refusing to commit to a peaceful transfer of power, even going so far as to say we should “get rid of the ballots” so there won’t be a transfer of power at all.
“This is so frightening because he’s said, ‘the only way I can lose is if it’s a rigged election,’” Hamill paraphrased. “So he’s setting up the idea that unless he wins, it’s fraud. That’s truly dangerous.”
That gem is followed by a familiar song and dance — Trump insisting he has a new healthcare plan primed and ready to for after he repeals the Affordable Care Act, put in place by Barack Obama. Nevermind that it’s been almost four years and he hasn’t given us any proof of a plan, or done anything to enact that.
“I have it all ready!” the president insists, even though we all know he, in fact, clearly does not.
Trump’s dismissal of climate change despite science and his failed coronavirus pandemic response are on display next, particularly highlighting his refusal to take responsibility for any of the mess that we are currently in despite so much of it being due to, at the very, very least, a poor display of leadership.
“Every previous president, Republican and Democrat, understood that they bear ultimately responsibility,” Hamill lamented.
Fortunately, the clips of Trump speaking stop there, and the actor makes a final plea to viewers not to be complacent, to get out and vote and “fight until the end.”
He also called Trump “easily the worst president ever.”
The ad was shared by Biden himself, as well as by Hamill, who channeled what all of us are undoubtedly feeling when he tweeted a request to vote Trump out of office so he doesn’t have to watch clips of him speaking ever again.
