It has been over ten days since the election and a full week since Joe Biden was projected to become the next President of the United States, yet President Trump and his allies continue to push the false narrative that the election is being stolen from him. He still seems to think he can find some way to come out ahead, despite needing to invalidate the results from multiple states in order to get there — something that simply won’t happen. And his supporters believe him.

To show their support, Trump fans organized a “Million MAGA March” on Washington, D.C. on Saturday. The protest was filled with people insisting Trump was on the path to be president for another four years. It was attended by various hate groups including the Proud Boys, and saw folks carrying signs protesting same-sex marriage, insisting Dr. Fauci should be arrested, among other signage generally denigrating Democrats as the enemy of the people.

In other words, it was exactly what everyone expected it to be.

White House press secretary and professional liar Kayleigh McEnany congratulated march attendees, taking the name of the event at face value and claiming there were over a million people present.

In reality, attendance was estimated to be in the low thousands, with suggestions often falling between 5,000 and “tens of thousands” based on aerial photos and videos of the event as well as information from reporters on the ground.

People couldn’t decide what was more entertaining to dunk on — the low turnout compared to both expectations and anti-Trump marches put on over the past four years, or McEnany’s blatant lie about how big the crowd was, among so many other options.

And unsurprisingly, there didn’t seem to be much mask-wearing happening during the march, which tracks with some of the anti-Fauci and “COVID hoax” signs seen throughout the crowd.

But it’s possible these decisions will come back to haunt attendees in several weeks, as the United States is seeing yet another surge in COVID cases, and outdoor Trump rallies — where attendees were also often maskless — appeared to cause a spike in infection rates over the summer.

But compared to the impact they likely wanted to make, the march largely went ignored by Biden supporters. Something like 300 counterprotestors showed up to dunk on the MAGA folks in person, and beyond a few hastily thrown out jokes, people on Twitter were quick to return to business as usual on Saturday, pointing out that no matter how many MAGAs march, Biden still won the election.

It’s unclear how long the MAGA folks will continue to protest voter fraud that election officials (and even Trump’s lawyers) say never happened, but if the rightwing obsession with Hillary Clinton’s emails is any indication…well, let’s just hope it’s not.
