Biden Team Gets The Go-Ahead To Begin Presidential Transition, Trump Fans Lose It

While President Trump has been going on and on about “voter fraud” without providing the necessary proof to advance his cases intending to overturn the results of the election in court, the main reason Joe Biden hasn’t been able to begin his transition to the presidency is because one woman heading up one agency refused to release the funds necessary for him to do so.

The head of the General Services Administration (GSA), Emily Murphy, had been dragging her heels for weeks. But after initially refusing on Monday to meet with the incoming administration as they requested, Murphy ultimately released a letter declaring she was finally willing to do her job and assist in the transition.

The letter itself was petulant and defensive, with Murphy insisting that she was only doing her job by refusing to do her job, inadequately comparing this election to the hangup in 2000 between George W. Bush and Al Gore, which also saw a rare instance of the GSA refusing to ascertain a candidate’s victory soon after the winner was declared.

“Because of recent developments involving legal challenges and certifications of election results,” she wrote, referencing Trump’s failure to delay certification of Biden’s win in Michigan, “I have determined that you may access the post-election resources and services described in Section 3 of the Act upon request. The actual winner of the presidential election will be determined by the electoral process detailed in the Constitution.”

Regardless of the delay it for took Murphy— who is a Trump appointee — to get to this point, the result is that Biden and his team will now have access to some of what they need to get started preparing to lead the country come January 20.

Trump fanatics are, obviously, less than thrilled with the development.

Members of TheDonald forum, a former subreddit that had to start its own site because the content was so consistently inappropriate that Reddit banned it entirely, are having full on meltdowns, as are folks who moved over to Parler, a social media haven for rightwing conspiracy theorists.

Trump supporters are blatantly suggesting violence in response to Biden’s team moving closer to the presidency, against both him and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as well as Democratic voters in general.

Trump himself has praised Murphy for dragging her feet, and said after the release of her letter that he is “recommending that Emily and her team do what needs to be done with regard to initial protocols, and have told my team to do the same.”

This statement is at odds with Murphy’s insistence that every decision she has made regarding the delay and ultimate decision to move forward with the transition has been her own and not influenced by the White House.
