White House Christmas celebrations under the Trump administration have always been a little eerie. Even if you’re into non-traditional holiday decor, it’s hard to look back on those photos of Melania Trump wandering through towering red trees with anything less than at least a twinge of horror.

But this year, Christmas at the White House is something special, and not just because it will be the final holiday the Trump family gets to spend in America’s house.

Just last month, audio recordings of Melania complaining about having to decorate for Christmas back in 2018 were released, although they were immediately overshadowed by the announcement that the Trumps had come down with COVID-19.
“I’m working…my a— off on the Christmas stuff, that, you know, who gives a f—k about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?” the First Lady could be heard saying.

Well, she has to do it again this year. The final White House tree was delivered on Monday, and Melania was present for its horse-drawn arrival, waving to the cameras and pretending to give any f—ks about the holiday and the decorations that are part of her duty as the wife of the president.

As this will be the first (and only) Trump Christmas after these complaints were made public, people on Twitter were eager to take the opportunity to make jokes at the First Lady’s expense, often calling her own words back up to haunt her.

And the fact that Republicans often spend so much time insisting that liberals hate Christmas and are declaring a war on Christmas (because they also acknowledge that other non-Christian holidays happen around the same time) makes Melania’s Christmas-hating spirit even more hilarious.

We’ll find out soon enough what Melania’s vision for a White House Christmas looks like this year, but whether it’s more sci-fi scariness or back to something more traditional, when she’s making her people pack up any personal ornaments after the holidays, they might as well load them straight into that moving van.
