A massage therapist is facing some serious backlash for his business after he accidentally sent a racist text message to the customer he was being racist about.

@_juju.b__ shared a screenshot of the text exchange she says her mother had with Scott Francis, who runs his own massage therapy business in Willoughby, Ohio. Her mother, Marcy, had texted Francis to let him know she was on her way, seemingly running late for the appointment they had made previously over text.

“Ok she texted me and said she is on her way damn [N-words],” Francis replied.

Ignoring his first message, which clearly reads as though it were intended for someone else, he subsequently claimed he had left the office.

As Marcy was already on her way, she pulled up to his office anyway and confronted him about the text.

“Let me explain it, okay? I am not racist,” Francis claimed. “But the thing of it is, I’ve had a lot of Black women calling and not coming, coming late, not coming at all. This is the way I make my living. And I just— it was upsetting.”

Of course, there are plenty of ways to express frustration with customers not showing up or showing up late without bringing racism into the mix. That simply isn’t an excuse, and Marcy wasn’t going to let it slide.

“So, because you had a lot of Black women doing this, you felt like that was appropriate?” she asked. “So you think it’s fair that I spend my money with you and you’re clearly racist because you text me this, saying ‘damn [N-words]?’”

He apologized, but Marcy calmly informed him that it was still inappropriate, and she was going to post all of this and discourage people from giving him their business.

As soon as the post began to pick up traction, people started one-star review-bombing Francis’s business, sharing the video to his Yelp page and suggesting, as Marcy said, that people take their money elsewhere.

Reviews are currently disabled on Yelp as a result, and Francis doesn’t seem to have commented on the incident publicly.
