The statement noted, “A nurse employed with Salem Health posted a video on social media which displayed cavalier disregard for the seriousness of this pandemic and her indifference towards physical distancing and masking outside of work. This video has prompted an outcry from concerned community members. We want to thank those of you who brought this to our attention and assure you that we are taking this very seriously. This individual does not speak for Salem Health and has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.”

Though the video no longer lives online, another TikTok user, Amanda Butcher (@amandabutcher2), preserved the original TikTok and recorded her own reaction to it:

In the original video, the nurse is screaming along with what appears to be a scene from The Grinch in which the Grinch encounters Cindy Lou. It’s captioned, “When my co-workers find out I still travel, don’t wear a mask when I am out, and let my kids have play dates.”

In the repurposed video, Butcher shakes her head throughout the nurse’s display, with a video caption reading, “Imagine being an oncology nurse during a pandemic and bragging about not taking precautions.” Butcher’s accompanying comment reads, “To each their own, but why would you brag about it to others?”

A Portland, Oregon TV station, KGW-TV, tracked down Butcher and interviewed her for a story that ran Saturday.

“I was just appalled. I was disgusted,” Butcher explained in an interview. “Nurses shouldn’t be posting about that especially.”

As of midday Monday, Butcher’s video had received over 280,000 likes on the platform and was additionally boosted on Twitter. Butcher observed, of her video, “I didn’t think it was going to blow up like that.”
