A video of Donald Trump joking that Carrots, one of the turkeys up for the traditional Thanksgiving “pardon” from the president, refused to concede the vote and demanded a recount has resurfaced from 2018. Unfortunately for Carrots, said Trump, the recount found the same results as before.

“We’re still fighting with Carrots,” he said. “And I will tell you, we’ve come to a conclusion: Carrots, I’m sorry to tell you, the results did not change. Too bad for Carrots.”

The video, posted by CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski Monday morning, is spreading fast enough on Twitter that “Carrots” started trending. Trump critics are, predictably, drawing comparisons between his jokes and his current situation.

Trump is still refusing to concede after losing yet more of his legal battles in both Michigan and Pennsylvania—both of which he would need to win in order to secure reelection. Georgia is now going through a second recount of the state’s votes by the request of the Trump campaign after losing there twice in a row.
In spite of overwhelming losses, Trump has continued to insist that he won the 2020 election, resulting in widespread fears that he is doing long-term damage to public faith in the U.S. election system. Most recently, a group of over 160 U.S. executives signed a letter to the outgoing president urging him to concede, citing the nation’s reputation as well as economic damage caused by the delays in the presidential transition process.

“Every day that an orderly presidential transition process is delayed, our democracy grows weaker in the eyes of our own citizens and the nation’s stature on the global stage is diminished,” the letter reads according to The New York Times. “Withholding resources and vital information from an incoming administration puts the public and economic health and security of America at risk.”

As the cracks continue to form in our democracy, at least there are jokes to be made about Trump and Carrots. Some are even testing out a new nickname for the soon-departing president.
“If only Carrots had retained Daffy Duck, Esq., as counsel. He could have released the … quacken,” Alan Fisher commented.
“How is there always something that proves his hypocrisy? How?” wonders author Mikki Kendall.
