Anti-Masker Finally Wears Mask After Family Members Die From COVID-19

Over the course of 2020, we’ve heard too many stories of anti-maskers who caught COVID-19 and went to their graves still yelling on social media that it’s just a hoax, or insisting to hospital staff that they must have some other disease. It’s both heartbreaking and frustrating to watch that sort of willful ignorance have such a hold on people, until the end.

In other scenarios, anti-maskers have managed to avoid the virus themselves but have watched their loved ones get sick or even die. And sometimes, it seems, that’s finally enough for them to change their tune.

Footage laced together and shared by @davenewworld_2 featuring a nameless young woman shows her journey over time from being a fervent anti-masker to finally, at least, wearing a mask after several of her family members died from COVID-19.

“Is it just me or are masks not actually required?” she asks at the start of the video. “It’s just the sign that says masks are required, for government reasons, I guess. I don’t know.”

The woman then says she’s realized stores where she lives aren’t enforcing the policy, and she can just go basically wherever she wants without a mask and not encounter any pushback from the employees or patrons she’s putting in danger.

A cut to the next clip reveals her to be a Trump supporter, to no one’s surprise. But after that, things start to get real.

“I’m on my way to my uncle’s funeral,” the woman says. “Tomorrow, I’ll be on the way to my poppa’s funeral.”

She then explains that her aunt is on a ventilator and has no idea that she’ll be waking up to find her father dead.

Unfortunately, a subsequent video reveals that her aunt also didn’t make it. “My dad lost his sister and his dad in the same week,” she tells viewers.

The final video shows the woman telling “all you haters” that she’s finally putting a mask on to walk into Starbucks.

People watching the compilation debated whether the woman actually had a change of heart after members of her family died from COVID-19, or if she just put on the mask to try to stop all the negative comments she was receiving.

And others were stuck with their frustrations that for too many people, something has to effect them personally before they show any empathy or understanding of a situation.

But if the end result is that one more person is finally wearing a mask, at least there’s that. It’s just tragic it took such extreme loss to get to that point.
