The Wall Street Journal op-ed disrespecting incoming First Lady Dr. Jill Biden is the misogynistic take that just keeps on coming.

Adding to the pile on — to absolutely no one’s surprise — is Fox News staple Tucker Carlson. In fact, Wednesday night actually marked the third night in a row the host mocked Dr. Biden’s degrees on air, though this one was the longest diatribe on the matter by far.

This time, Carlson claimed he actually read Dr. Biden’s 130-page dissertation that she wrote in 2006 in order to complete her Ed.D. in educational leadership at the University of Delaware.
“Dr. Jill needs reading glasses, either that, or she’s borderline illiterate,” he claimed. “There are typos everywhere, including in the first graph of the introduction. Dr. Jill can’t write. She can’t really think clearly, either.”
Carlson then added that he believes her dissertation “is our national shame” and attempted to both dismiss her accomplishments based on her university not being prestigious enough and frame the use of her title as part of a class war perpetrated by “a certain sort of person” that “goes to Yale.”
He also preemptively combatted (in his mind) accusations of misogyny by taking swings at President-elect Biden as well.

Whether Carlson is truly irked by Dr. Biden’s title or simply thinks this is an easy, petty topic to get his viewers riled up night after night is anyone’s guess, but his previous remarks were just as unnecessary and grasping.
Of course, as other outlets have already pointed out, Carlson’s insistence that Dr. Biden doesn’t deserve her title — and that he’s no misogynistic for saying so — loses weight upon the recollection that the Fox News host has had no qualms with referring to male doctors with degrees in fields other than medicine by their title.

That this conversation on whether or not Dr. Biden should use her well-earned title has reached repeated on-air coverage rather than being confined to a mediocre op-ed and trending topics on Twitter not only proves how deeply misogyny still permeates our culture, but also that conservatives are reaching for any little thing they can use to lash out at the Bidens.
We have a president who lost the election and has been throwing a tantrum about it for over a month, grifting his supporters out of their money while undermining democracy and the Republican party, yet here we are, devoting national air time to a petty, misogynistic debate that does nothing other than insulting people who devote their lives to education.

Quite frankly, it’s boring. And if this is the best Tucker Carlson can do, perhaps it’s time to give his slot to someone who actually has anything of value to say to the American people.
