Trump Reportedly Considering Refusing To Leave The White House In January

President Trump has, on occasion, threatened to refuse to leave the White House when it’s time for Joe Biden to be officially inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States, according to reports.

Many have wondered over the last several weeks whether Trump’s perpetual insistence that he won re-election (he lost) is something he actually buys into or if it’s merely a front he’s putting up in order to keep his supporters hot for whatever his next endeavor is, while also raking in money from them to pay down some of his expenses.

But according to CNN, he genuinely cannot accept that he lost.

“He’s been fed so much misinformation that I think he actually thinks this thing was stolen from him,” an advisor reportedly said, seemingly referencing the very lawsuits Rudy Giuliani keeps filing — and losing — on Trump’s behalf.

The president has been pushing these conspiracy theories about a rigged election and widespread voter fraud and essentially anything he can think of to support the baseless claim that he’s not a loser for weeks now. In reality, Trump lost the popular vote by 7 million, the electoral college vote by the same number he called a “landslide” win in 2016, and has had over 60 lawsuits alleging fraud rejected by the courts.

Still, apparently in his “moments of deepest denial, Trump has told some advisers that he will refuse to leave the White House on Inauguration Day,” CNN reports.

This possibility had been tossed around by political commentators since before the election even took place, as Trump had made it clear earlier on in 2020 that he wouldn’t commit to accepting the results of the election, and actually began alleging any outcome other than him winning would be fraudulent prior to voting taking place.

But as much as Trump has managed to undermine democracy during his time at the White House, there still aren’t any legal grounds for him to simply remain in office simply because he refuses to leave. But apparently, Trump’s advisors believe he will eventually slink away into the night, regardless of what he might say in the meantime.

“He’s throwing a f—king temper tantrum,” one said. “He’s going to leave. He’s just lashing out.”

Still, should it come to that, some people wouldn’t be upset to watch it play out.

We’ve got a month left to go before we see how this all plays out, which is nothing considering how long it’s felt like the last four years have dragged out. One month, for Trump to decide if he wants to retain the smallest shred of dignity when he leaves office or if he wants to cap off his presidential legacy in a way truly befitting his time spent leading this country — by throwing a temper tantrum and taking zero personal responsibility for anything at all.
