Internet Reacts To Mom Debating Whether She Should Go To Disney World Despite Kid Having COVID

Everyone’s had to make difficult choices this year. Holidays have been canceled, weddings postponed, graduation celebrations confined to drive-by honkings. There’s probably not a single person who hasn’t made some sort of concession due to either wanting to keep themselves and their loved ones safe during a pandemic or thanks to the government or businesses imposing rules that prevent them from making careless mistakes.

By now, most people have accepted that these compromises will continue happening well into next year, while we get in line for the COVID-19 vaccine and wait for the infection rates to drop. But some people still apparently cannot wrap their heads around the fact that we’re in a worldwide pandemic and we have to act like it.

People were furious when one woman in a “Disney World Junkies” Facebook group started stressing out over whether or not her family should cancel the trip they were supposed to take to the Magic Kingdom after Christmas. The reason she suddenly started debating the issue? Her 4-year-old tested positive for COVID-19.

“I am so devastated over the idea of canceling this trip…we have been planning it for months and months!! It was my 4 & 6 year olds entire Christmas present, without it…we have nothing really to give them Christmas morning,” Ashley ‘Johnson’ Hall complained.

I have so much sympathy for people who wrestled with that sort of decision in the early days of the pandemic — before we really knew what 2020 would look like, when plans had been made months prior to any noise of “COVID-19” entering public consciousness. But now? You hinge your kids’ entire Christmas on an expensive vacation in the middle of a pandemic that could obviously force you to cancel at the drop of a hat? Get outta here, lady.

And let’s be clear: Hall isn’t bemoaning the fact that they’ll have to cancel. She’s debating whether they should.

“[My 4-year-old] doesn’t have any symptoms or fever or anything,” mother of the freaking year continues. “Neither do the rest of us. We plan to all get retested again in a few days. We have had some people tell us that we should be ok to go, including our travel planner. We have had others tell us not to go.”

Hall ends by saying she has “no idea what to do!!!!!”

It’s quite simple, really. If you have COVID-19, you DON’T GO TO DISNEY WORLD. You don’t risk infecting hundreds of people, who could then infect hundreds more people, just because your small child isn’t showing symptoms. How in the actual Donald Duck is this still something people can’t grasp?

Though the post itself took place in a private Facebook group, once it hit Twitter, the condemnations of this absurd debate started rolling in.

And even besides the fact that bringing a child infected with COVID-19 to a crowded park would endanger scores of people, some had a hard time digesting the fact that Hall didn’t seem too concerned about her actual family in this scenario.

Just stay home. The vaccine is almost here. Stay home. Stay home and go to Disney World and Disneyland and every freaking Disney theme park in the entire galaxy when this is all over. The world will not end if you don’t go to Florida right now. But someone’s might if you do.
