As we draw closer to Inauguration Day, rather than coming to terms with the fact that he lost and has to leave office, reports say President Trump is only growing more hostile and desperate as he looks for people to blame and people to fight for him to still, somehow, overturn the results of democracy.

Vice President Mike Pence is reportedly now among those on the receiving end of Trump’s anger, as the president doesn’t believe he’s doing enough to support the baseless conspiracy theories Trump and his loyalists continue to peddle about widespread voter fraud.

According to Axios, an anonymous source says that a Lincoln Project ad is a major source of Trump’s growing distrust of Pence.
The 38-second spot revolves entirely around the idea that Pence is backing away from the president in order to salvage his own political career.
“The end is coming, Donald,” the ad’s narrator says. “Even Mike Pence knows.”

It even goes so far as to point out that it will ultimately be Pence who presides over the formal count of the electoral votes and will declare Joe Biden the winner of the 2020 presidential election, as determined by the people of the United States. This is standard practice and Pence’s duty as Vice President, but as Trump expects everyone to be loyal to him above all else, the likelihood for tension surrounding this event is apparent.
Apparently, Trump is still exploring ways he believes he can turn his loss into a stolen victory, and, per Axios, is increasingly only interested in speaking to people who indulge his fantasies.

One possibility being floated by some Republicans in the House of Representatives is that they could postpone the official inauguration until January 7 by launching a debate on the floor to challenge the results in the swing states.
CNN calls it an effort “doomed to fail,” and something that could put Republicans who understand that Biden won but who don’t want to make enemies out of Trump and his base in a tough position.
“I just don’t think it makes a lot of sense to put everybody through this when you know what the ultimate outcome is going to be,” Senator John Thune told CNN.
Still, the president appears to be entertaining the idea as it’s floated to him in meetings. Meetings, it’s said, that Pence only attended in part, despite him being an integral part of whatever happens on January 6th.

Quite frankly, it sounds as though the Lincoln Project is right. Pence is ready to move on, and extricate himself from a sinking ship if he still can.
