Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is taking heat from the left again for calling the $600 survival checks that will reportedly be in the next COVID stimulus bill “significant” while announcing the details of the package. Though Pelosi pointed out that Republicans wanted to send out $0 to the people, people are taking issue with the suggestion that $600 is a good amount after nine months of pandemic, especially since the first checks were double that amount.

“We also have in the legislation direct payments, which were not in the Republican bill, to America’s working families,” said Pelosi. “I would have liked them to have been bigger, but they are significant, and they will be going out soon.”
U.S. residents have been living on one payment of $1200 in May and shrinking monthly payments if they managed to get on unemployment while people in other rich nations have been enjoying larger survival payments each month. This largely explains the disparities between most countries and the U.S. in terms of COVID-19 infection rates and deaths, the latter number which just passed 325,000 here.
