A cautionary tale about always making sure you’re on the right Twitter account before tweeting played out between Republican Senator Josh Hawley and a Walmart social media employee Wednesday. Our condolences to the likely-fired individual who tweeted at Hawley calling him a sore loser in response to his announcement that he would be objecting to the Electoral College vote count on January 6.

Although the tweet was deleted and Walmart quickly issued an apology, calling it a mistake, conservatives have now called for a boycott of the biggest superstore chain in the U.S.

After discovering the #BoycottWalmart hashtag on Twitter, many non-conservatives jumped at the chance to point out the irony of the same people who often get hysterical about so-called “cancel culture” canceling their favorite store.
The insulting tweet came after Hawley announced his intention to object to the largely ceremonial vote count because he’s still on the Trump “voter fraud” train over the 2020 election.
This move is expected to do nothing but cause an irritating delay, but someone who is clearly not a fan taunted him over it from the official Walmart account.

“Go ahead,” they tweeted. “Get your 2 hour debate. #soreloser.”
Hawley noticed this before they were able to delete the tweet and used the opportunity to attack the company for their use of slave labor, low pay for their employees, and tendency to “drive mom and pop stores out of business.”
“Thanks @Walmart for your insulting condescension. Now that you’ve insulted 75 million Americans, will you at least apologize for using slave labor?” he asked.
Walmart replied to Hawley via its other Twitter account apologizing for the incident, saying the tweet “was mistakenly posted by a member of our social media team.”

“We deleted the post and have no intention of commenting on the subject of certifying the electoral college,” they wrote. “We apologize to Senator Hawley for this error and any confusion about our position.”
Though perhaps a bit confused by agreeing with Hawley on what he said about Walmart, left Twitter is nevertheless amused by the resulting call for boycotts against the company from the right. Maybe together we can all bring down the giant?
