As we all know by now, as soon as the shock of the Capitol riots started to fade, Trump supporters sitting at home watching everything play out jumped at the opportunity to blame their favorite invisible scapegoat — Antifa.

Never mind that the narrative didn’t hold up for more than two seconds, as known rightwing figures were live-streaming from the rotunda and immediately visible in the most viral of pictures. It was convenient and easy to blame outside agitators for the whole thing, and so they tried.

One kid was so disappointed in their mom’s decision to latch onto the conspiracy theory that they recorded mother dearest’s crazy-sounding take on the whole thing and shared it with the internet.

“Do you not hear yourself?” the kid asks as mom stands in the doorway to their room. “What came out of your mouth right now? Please tell me.”

“That Antifa attacked the Capitol today, and they were mixed in with the Trump supporters, wearing MAGA hats, turned backwards. The FBI got ‘em. They’re Antifa, dressed in MAGA clothes,” mom replies, as if it’s the most common sense thing in the world.

It’s unclear when the video was filmed, but if mom is talking about the FBI picking up suspects, it seems entirely possible this occurred long after the “Antifa infiltrators” theory was largely disproved.

The internet had identified dozens of rioters who were verifiably vocal Trump supporters by the time arrests started being made, and the FBI’s list began to overlap those who had been called out online.

But who needs facts when you have “Antifa?”

The kid tried to point out to their mom that she literally just said Antifa was “mixed in” with real MAGAs, insinuating that MAGA nation must have stormed the Capitol as well.

“They weren’t in the Capitol,” mom argued. “They were outside the Capitol. There was a huge rally outside the Capitol.”

“And what were they wearing outside the Capitol? And what were they doing outside the Capitol?” the kid prompted.

Mom visibly hesitates before responding: “Uh, gathering.”

“Uh, no. They were terrorizing people,” the kid retorts.

Mom cuts the whole thing off by asking if they want soup, but her kid gets one final shot in: “Yes, but your stupidity is gross.”

Kids and teens being open about their parents’ rightwing and often racist or homophobic views on social media has been a whole trend on TikTok during the Trump years, although not all go so far as to record their parents spouting off nonsense.

However, another offspring actually outed her mother and members of her extended family for participating in the riots surrounding the Capitol, even providing their names in case the FBI wanted to investigate.

A common refrain from older folks watching these teens hold their parents responsible for their beliefs and decisions is that Thanksgivings are going to be pretty awkward, but what they often fail to realize is the parents already made them that way by participating in ridiculous rightwing conspiracy theories and failing to turn off Fox News before it turned their brains to absolute mush.
