Newly-Elected GOP Congresswoman Tells Pro-Trump Crowd: “Hitler Was Right”

Newly-elected Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-Ill.), addressing a crowd of Trump supporters at a rally outside the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday, remarked that “Hitler was right on one thing,” contrasting the view of a number of Americans who would contend that Hitler is right on no things.

Video shared on Twitter by Margot McGowan Staebler showed the excerpt of the speech, which she labeled, “Not a great look for a freshmen Congresswoman.”

The two-minute speech by Miller, elected to represent Illinois’s 15th Congressional District in November, was part of a “Moms for America Saving the Republic” event outside the Capitol, organized by the conservative group Moms for America, according to People.

“If we win a few elections, we’re still going to be losing unless we win the hearts and minds of our children. This is the battle,” Miller told the assembled throng, right before bringing Hitler into the equation.

“Hitler was right on one thing,” she continued, shockingly, “that whoever has the youth has the future.”

In the initial video she posted, McGowan Staebler showed herself covering her hand with her mouth after Miller makes the comment, observing, “This woman just said, ‘Hitler was right on one thing.'”

She later posted footage of the entire speech (with the Hitler line coming at the 1:23 mark).

A fellow member of her state’s Republican delegation, Rep. Adam Kinzinger, took to Twitter to say, “I outright condemn this garbage.”

NBC Chicago captured her state’s governor, J.B. Pritzker, condemning the remarks at a press conference, labeling them “unfathomable and disgusting remarks.”

The station also noted that a number of Illinois lawmakers are now calling for her resignation.
