There are so many weirdoes in the Donald Trump circle it’s hard to keep track of them all, but this story welcomes back a character from earlier seasons: Steve Bannon, who Trump pardoned during his final days in office. Bannon invited another of Trump’s cronies, Rudy Giuliani onto his “War Room” podcast Friday.

The two discussed the January 6th insurrection, which Bannon spent a lot of time hyping up in the says leading up to it. For his participation, Bannon was banned from YouTube three days later. He has been banned from Twitter since November, according to Newsweek. But even Bannon was over Giuliani’s nonsense when he started to float another baseless conspiracy about who started the insurrection, besides Trump fans.

“The defense is going to have to show that this thing was planned and a lot of the people involved in the planning, antifa and even some right-wing groups, were enemies of his,” Giuliani said. “And they were doing it in order to hurt him. Including some right-wing groups that operate for the Lincoln Project or have been working with the Lincoln Project at various times.”

“Hang on. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa—what are you saying ‘working for the Lincoln Project?'” Bannon asked. “Right-wing groups like who?”

“I don’t know if I can reveal his name,” Giuliani answered. “Because we have that from anonymous sources. But he worked in the past for [Utah Sen. Mitt] Romney.”

Bannon kind of laughs at him, then says, “This is why we’re getting blown up all the time. You can’t throw a charge out there like that and say, ‘Yeah, I’ve got a double-secret probation guy who I can’t mention but he worked for Romney and he worked for the Lincoln Project.'”

It’s weird Giuliani is so excited to spread more rumors about people with a lot of money, because he’s already facing a $1.3 billion defamation suit from Dominion Voting Systems after accusing the voting-machine manufacturers of supporting election fraud. If it’s because he’s hoping for a big payday from Trump, he should check that guy’s record. He doesn’t pay his debts.
