A Capitol rioter who tweeted out a call to “assassinate AOC” on January 6th has been arrested, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez herself posted about it on Twitter after the news broke.

Garret Miller was one of the many pro-Trump rioters who couldn’t resist leaving behind a trail of evidence as he stormed the Capitol as part of an attempt to overturn the results on the presidential election.

He shared a selfie from inside the building, telling a Facebook commenter “just wanted to incriminate myself a little lol,” and responded to tweets telling people he was there.
At one point, he also responded to a tweet thread that started with AOC calling for the impeachment of Donald Trump for inciting a riot by claiming “We acted with honor and we where [sic] not armed. We where [sic] gentle with the police. They murdered a child.”
While the police did shoot and kill one rioter, 35-year-old Ashli Babbitt, numerous videos show that Miller’s claims that rioters were “gentle” with police and unarmed were false.

And he may not have much leeway to claim otherwise, as he continued calling for violence on social media, saying of the Capitol officer who shot Babbitt that he wanted to “hug his neck with a nice rope” and that they “got the traitor cop as a target” now, along with tweeting after the riot that “they are right next time we bring the guns.”

Clint Broden, Miller’s lawyer, told the Associated Press that Miller’s “social media comments reflect very ill-considered political hyperbole in very divided times,” and seems to expect that that will be an adequate defense in court, as he also says his client “looks forward to putting all of this behind him.”
Ocasio-Cortez — who has previously been open about how traumatizing the siege was and that she knew she might be a target — wasn’t so cavalier about it.

“‘Just wanted to incriminate myself a little,’” she quoted Miller as saying. “Well, you did!”

The Congresswoman elaborated on her tweeted, acknowledging that “On the one hand you have to laugh, and on the other know that the reason they were this brazen is because they thought they were going to succeed.”
Despite the overwhelming evidence against many of the rioters who have been arrested, not everyone is convinced they will end up facing any sort of justice.
“It seems comically dumb but really it’s just the confidence of people who know the justice system is stacked in their favor,” writer Matt Nedostup replied.
Others simply shared their support.
“This is scary,” said @CCoceans311. “I’m glad you’re in a place you can joke about it, but man. This is scary how close someone like that came to you.”

Miller currently faces five charges related to the riots and is being held until a hearing on Monday.
