We’re not even finished with January yet and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has made the most memorable — and horrifying — flub of 2021.

The Senator was speaking to his peers on Friday regarding the upcoming impeachment trial for former President Trump when the unfortunate mistake happened.

“Make no mistake, there will be a trial and when that trial ends, senators will have to decide if they believe Donald John Trump incited the erection — insurrection — against the United States,” he said.

While it would probably stand up to scrutiny that Trump has, in fact, incited an erection among his gun-toting, MAGA flag-waving maniacal supporters in their new crusade against democracy, it’s not exactly an image anyone wants in their brain.

And it’s certainly not what Schumer meant to say.

All the same, the internet immediately jumped all over it with the obvious jokes.

Although some desperately wanted to pretend the whole thing never happened.

Schumer actually hasn’t been the only one to publicly make this traumatizing mistake so far. Anderson Cooper managed to do the same thing on CNN just a couple days earlier.

And before him, Chris Krebs made a similar mistake on Face the Nation.

But the fact that Schumer actually said this in front of the Senate, combined with his reaction to his own mistake, means he takes the win for most ridiculous “erection” slip so far — if you can really call that a win for anyone.
