Claudia Conway Auditioned For “American Idol” And People Are Conflicted

Kellyanne Conway’s 16-year-old daughter has been in the news a lot lately. Claudia became very popular on TikTok, where she first started posting about what it is like living with one of Donald Trump’s inner circle. For instance, she caught COVID-19 from her mom, who she says lied about having it. Sounds about right for that crew.

But Claudia isn’t another Trump follower, she is a teen girl trapped with two very influential parents in D.C. She has made more serious allegations that her parents verbally abuse her and that her mother stole and deliberately posted a photo of Claudia topless to her Twitter Fleets. Later, Claudia stated it was an accident, but many people following her story wonder if she was forced to make a retraction.

And now she’s auditioning for American Idol.

Going to TikTok again, Claudia says this is “not a publicity stunt” and that she is deeply passionate about music and plays several instruments. So, she couldn’t turn down the opportunity and her episode will air on Sunday:

In a promotional video on People.com, she introduces herself to judges judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie by saying, “My mother is Kellyanne Conway. She worked for Donald Trump. And my dad is George Conway. He worked against Donald Trump. It’s a lot, but I agree to disagree with my mom and my dad.”

She goes on to say in the clip that “when your mom is working for the President of the United States, who you very much disagree with, it’s hard,” and that music has been a refuge. So has being on social media and seeing how many people support her, outside of her family.

“The internet can be a very, very dark place,” she finishes. “But when life is all going down hill, I have my music. Now, I want to get out of the controversy, get out of the drama and let people know that I am a singer and this is what I want to do.”

The internet is also full of people who aren’t too happy to see Claudia appearing on a show like this in the midst of so much tumultuous home drama:

Claudia Conway is 16 years-old and at the center of an abusive family situation playing out very publicly. Let’s not pretend ABC and American Idol aren’t exploiting this. They’re commodifying the unresolved trauma of a child. It’s really gross. That’s all there is to it.

In November, Claudia did share she was auditioning on her TikTok account, so it’s not completely new news. I guess seeing it on tape, all edited to music, really drives home how completely Claudia Conway has been failed by every single adult in her life.
