Nothing strikes dread into the weary heart like a new sign hung up at a terrible job, because chances are, that sign is going to be announcing some new pain-in-the-neck policy or generally be designed to kill your fragile spirit. One particular work sign illustrates this point perfectly as it spreads around Twitter for demonstrating just how much corporate speak fries the brain cells of those who engaged in it, one neuron at a time.

The sign sports a simple list claiming to feature “Things That Don’t Require Effort.” As the note scrawled on it in market reads, all the things actually do require effort, although certain points may require more conscious effort for some people than others. Things like “being on time” and “body language” might not be difficult for one worker, but nearly impossible to navigate for the next.
Still, it’s wrong to say that any of those things require as little effort as breathing. Then there are the items which absolutely require concerted effort to achieve, including “doing extra” and “work ethic,” and most of all, the bullet point that actually literally says “effort.”
One commenter noted that this used to be something that went around on LinkedIn, only the original claimed that the items on the list didn’t require “talent.” That at least makes more sense, though still arguably untrue, but also the list doesn’t include a bullet point for “talent,” so that definitely puts it ahead of this nonsense.
We all hope this sign ended up in the trash soon after being put up, but we’re also grateful to the brave soul who captured a photo of it before that happened, because the only real way to cleanse the universe of something this ridiculous is with a thorough round of ridicule. Here’s a list of 25 to get you started:
