In the wake of Gina Carano getting fired from The Mandalorian for repeatedly sharing offensive social media posts, conservatives have become thoroughly outraged, blaming “cancel culture” and insisting that her character is an integral part of the show.

And while that’s exactly the response one would expect, it’s also comically hypocritical.

Back when Carano’s Cara Thune was first introduced, it was conservatives who were raging against the show being “woke” and taking on a feminist agenda, even at times calling for her character to be removed from the show entirely.

You can’t even make this stuff up.

As much as denouncing “cancel culture” has become a talking point for rightwing politicians and commentators, it’s not at all uncommon for those same people to call for boycotts of companies or firings of celebrities they don’t like, just the same as everyone else.

It’s a classic case of wanting a different set of rules to apply for people you like vs people you don’t like or people who agree with you vs people who don’t.

And people had no problem bringing the receipts to put this particular hypocrisy on full display.

The bottom line is that actions have consequences and companies are generally free to fire people if they feel they are misrepresenting their brand. For a group of people that generally believes companies should have more rights than its workers, one would think they might understand that by now.
