Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, sometimes better known as the “QAnon Congresswoman” for her stated support in the dangerous conspiracy theory, is currently fundraising to defend against the push to remove her from her seat.

Some Democratic members of Congress and many of their constituents are calling for Greene to be expelled for her role in inciting the assault on the Capitol on January 6.

Why Greene needs $100,000 to defend against this is unclear, as is the reason she put Rep. Ilhan Omar’s face in the background of her fundraising campaign image.

“Unclear why Rep. Taylor Greene is using an image of ⁦@IlhanMN in this pitch, since Rep. Omar is not part of Democratic leadership in the House and would have no real say in disciplinary matters,” tweeted Yahoo News correspondent Alexander Nazaryan.

Of course, if you’re familiar with the GOP’s habit of using the young, Black, Muslim, hijabi congresswoman’s image for scaremongering, the reason becomes clear almost immediately. Omar herself herself clearly recognized the racism and Islamophobia at work, managing to point this out with the use of just one single word.

This is not just a Greene problem. Republicans have targeted Omar since the moment she started running for the seat she won in 2017 in spite of her having less power and getting less general media attention than her lighter-skinned, Christian colleagues.

Even now, Republicans are reportedly looking to strip Omar of her committee assignments out of revenge for Democrats working to do the same to Greene. They’re trotting out that old, tired line about Omar’s potentially kind of antisemitic comment about the Israeli government that one time, ignoring the fact that Greene one suggested that a Jewish-funded space laser started the California wildfires in 2018.

Not to mention the fact that the QAnon conspiracy theory itself has deep roots in antisemitism.

But even ignoring all of that bigoted weirdness, there’s no comparing the two junior congresswomen.

“Let’s be clear: this false equivalency is a pathetically desperate smear rooted in racism, misogyny, and Islamophobia,” wrote Rep. Rashida Tlaib, fellow member of The Squad. “Marjorie Taylor Greene has incited violence against her fellow members of Congress. She’s unfit to serve, even by today’s #GOP standards.”

Republicans will have an uphill battle against them, regardless, as they currently do not hold a majority in the House of Representatives.
