Hopefully, this is the last opportunity Eric Trump will have to make a public attempt to gain his father’s love.

The son of Florida man Donald Trump went on Fox News on Tuesday and made the demonstrably false claim that “there has never been a more beloved political figure in our country’s history.”

“There are 75 million Americans who would follow him to the end of Earth,” he said to Sean Hannity. “I mean, they love the man, they love what he stands for.”

This latter claim falls particularly flat considering the fact that the people who showed up to the Capitol on January 6 only numbered a couple thousand. Also, if they had literally followed Trump that day, they all would have ended up in that room with the TVs that he watched the insurrection from blocks away.

Also, more people voted for Joe Biden than for Donald Trump in the 2020 election. We can’t stress that enough.

The “most beloved political figure” claim can also be easily discredited with simple numbers, including the fact that Trump’s approval numbers sank to a record-breaking 34 percent as he exited the office of president. According to CNN, this is another way Trump made history on his way out, being the first president ever to end his first term with an approval rating below 40 percent. He also suffered a steep decline in approval among Republicans after the attempted coup.

Gallup also averaged Trump’s approval rating over his four years as president at 41 percent, which is “four points lower than for any of his predecessors in Gallup’s polling era.” According to this and other polling companies that don’t lean hard right, he never had an approval rating above 49 percent.

But facts aren’t going to earn daddy’s love. Eric’s attempts, however, have earned him significant amounts of ridicule.
