Conservatives are still trying to milk the scandal surrounding Gina Carano’s firing from The Mandalorian for all the outrage it’s worth. And because it might get him some free publicity, obviously Senator Ted Cruz has jumped into the fray.

Cruz had previously decried Carano’s firing over her repeatedly offensive social media posts, insisting that Disney “canceled her” because her character wasn’t a “victim” and called her “instrumental in making Star Wars fun again.”

Over the weekend, he retweeted a post from The Babylon Bee—a far-right parody website—mocking Disney for “looking for strong, fierce women who are also obedient, submissive, and docile,” in reference to recasting Carano’s role and expecting their actors to not repeatedly embarrass themselves and the company with their bigotry on social media.
“I wish this was parody,” Cruz wrote.

People were quick to point out that The Babylon Bee is, in fact, a satire website.

Cruz doubled down and insisted he knows exactly what the Bee is, and that that was the point.

Regardless, his intent with the comment is the same—he genuinely believes Disney is looking for a puppet to control, just because they decided anti-Semitism didn’t fit their public image.
Of course, Cruz has been eager to support business’s rights when it suits him.
Basically, the whole thing just turned into a Cruz-dunking fest—as usual.
