The Conservative Political Action Conference is off to a fairly predictable start this year, with a whole lot of unmasked attendees and Ted Cruz screaming “freedom” into the mic like he thinks he’s Zack de la Rocha.

Unfortunately for them, the Hyatt hotel where CPAC is being held requires everyone who enters to wear masks, and the organizers who reminded their fellow conservatives of this fact were not met with understanding.

Instead, attendees booed and chanted “freedom” when American Conservative Union executive director Dan Schneider took the stage to ask them to respect the rules of the house.
“We conservatives believe in the rule of law, because we know that when the laws enforced, our rights are protected,” he said. “And I know this might sound like a little bit of a downer, but we also believe in property rights, and this is a private hotel and we believe in the rule of law. So we need to comply with the laws of this county that we’re in.”

Schneider then passed the mic over to CPAC director Carly Patrick so that she could gently request that attendees keep their masks on while inside Hyatt property. This is met with a few jeers as Patrick admits that “it’s not the most fun” like she’s talking to a room full of elementary school children.
Pretty soon, the “freedom” chants can be heard coming from one corner of the room, maybe where Marjorie Taylor Greene was sitting, and Schneider has to step in again to remind them of how adults act.
“You have the right to set your own rules in your own house and we’re borrowing somebody else’s house. So we need to comply with their rules, so thank you all for putting on your masks.”
After thanking the crowd for doing something they were clearly not doing, the pair walked off stage to only a handful of half-hearted claps.

This year’s CPAC is being held at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Orlando, Florida, where new COVID-19 cases continue to number in the thousands each day, as well as averaging over 100 deaths per day.
As video of this moment spread on Twitter, people wondered whether the GOP will ever be able to reconcile trying to be the party of both “law and order” and “do whatever you want as long as you think it’s FREEDOM!”
