Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is still on Senator Ted Cruz for his abandonment of his constituents during an unprecedented natural disaster, accusing him of using his state as a layover on his way to CPAC.

While Texas has finally mostly melted, residents are still facing homes destroyed by collapsed roofs and water damage as well as power bills reaching the tens of thousands thanks to their privatized electrical grid.

“I don’t care what Cruz said at CPAC, but I do care that it appears Texas was just a layover stop for him between Cancun and Orlando to drop a pack of water into someone’s trunk and abandon his constituents again as they get slammed with $16,000 electrical bills,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

The congresswoman was likely referring to Cruz literally doing a Braveheart “freedom” yell on stage at this year’s CPAC, which quickly became a meme.

As funny as that was, Ocasio-Cortez would like to remind people that one of the reasons this was ridiculous is because while Cruz has the freedom to jet off to Cancun before running off to a political conference to act out a scene in his favorite movie, not everybody does.

Everyday Texans, for example, are too busy dealing with massive power bills that exploitative energy companies have said they will not cancel, but will maybe let their customers be in debt to them for a few years or decades instead. They also can’t afford to pay these bills or go to Cancun because they aren’t married to a managing director at Goldman Sachs.

When he wasn’t making movie references, Ted Cruz spent his time on stage at CPAC making light of the scandal he briefly pretending to be sorry about, making jokes about the weather in Cancun.

“Orlando is awesome,” he said. “It’s not as nice as Cancun, but it’s nice.”

Before going to CPAC, Cruz made time to get himself photographed moving some cases of bottled water around, though many noticed that there didn’t seem to be many people or houses or any snow in the background. It was enough to make some wonder whether he actually set up the stunt in Cancun rather than actually returning to Texas.

Though he often feuds with Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter, Cruz has not yet responded to this latest hit by the congresswoman. He appears to be too busy finding new ways to pretend to be an action movie hero.
