Mother Of Capitol Rioter Begs For His Release, Blames Trump’s Lies

The mother of one of the MAGA rioters who was arrested for storming the Capitol on January 6 is doing her best to convince a judge that the family was swept up by Donald Trump’s lies about the election.

18-year-old Bruno Cua was one of the youngest people arrested in conjunction with the failed insurrection. The Georgia teen attended the Stop the Steal rally in Washington, D.C., with his parents, and eventually wandered off on his own to the Capitol, where he allegedly was among those who forced their way into the Senate chamber and had an altercation with police.

So far, the judge has declined requests for Bruno to await his trial at home, after social media posts leading up to and after the Capitol riot revealed that he seemed to revel in the idea of a violent overthrow of the government.

“President Trump is calling us to FIGHT!” he wrote on Parler prior to the rally. “It’s time to take our freedom back the old fashioned way.”

A post two days after the riot called for the “public execution” of members of Congress.

Like many rioters, Bruno’s defense seems to revolve around the claim that it was Trump who incited them to violence. Trump misled them and encouraged them to “take back” the country by force, the story goes, and so how could they have possibly anticipated consequences for their actions?

Alise Cua, Bruno’s mother, now claims that she feels “stupid” for believing Trump’s lie that the election was stolen from him.

“We are completely broken and just honestly and truly remorseful to the core of our beings, and we’re asking for a chance,” she told the judge, adding that the family is “prepared to do absolutely anything the court wants.”

According to Bruno’s lawyers, he is an “extremely passionate, but very naive, teenager who was parroting what he heard and saw on social media.”

In other words, they believe he was radicalized, by a man Congress declined to hold responsible for an insurrection perpetrated by people who now also don’t want to be held responsible.
