A Disney World security guard is pressing charges after 51-year-old Kelly McKin spit on her for requesting that the park visitor wear a mask as required by company rules. The incident occurred on February 5 and McKin was arrested the next day, but the details of the case were not released by authorities until recently.

As it turns out, the confrontation between McKin and the security guard started with him allegedly trying to enter a Disney Hotel building that was closed to the public, claiming he was a guest there.

The security guard informed McKin of this fact after spotting him trying to enter the building and offering him directions to somewhere he might be allowed to go. After this, she asked him if he had a mask on him because he was not wearing one. McKin said he did and that he would put it on when he got inside the hotel that he was just informed was closed.

The guard, doing her job, informed him that it was Disney’s policy that guests wear masks at all times on their property, which includes outside areas. That’s when things got ugly.
“The male told her to leave him alone, and took a step towards her and spit on her,” the arrest report states. “The spit did not make direct contact but some saliva did hit her on her left forehead.”
McKin was able to duck inside the hotel and disappear, but the guard was able to identify him on surveillance footage, thanks mostly to the beard. Disney asked the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to issue a trespass warning, but they ended up arresting McKin and charging him with felony battery.
Disney announced today that it will be reopening its original park, Disney Land in California, on April 30 with some restrictions such as limited capacity and mask rules. The company was able to open their Disney World park earlier due to the state of Florida having less stringent pandemic laws in place than California.

Mask-wearing has continued to be a hot-button issue with some people a year into the pandemic, with anti-maskers continuing to make scenes wherever they’re asked to follow the rules of the property.
McKin is not the only one who has faced felony charges for spitting or otherwise intentionally exposing people to the novel coronavirus.
Disney fans have largely been happy to hear that the company is enforcing safety protocols to protect their customers and employees.
