Donald Trump is continuing to tease the idea of a 2024 bid for the presidency after losing reelection last year, and it turns out his ideal opponent is…Meghan Markle.

The idea that Markle might run for the presidency in the next few years has been tabloid fodder over the last few days, following her interview with Oprah that had the whole world talking. If it sounds farfetched, it’s because it probably is—there’s nothing substantial to suggest it’s even a consideration for the Duchess, and there’s been plenty of speculation that the rumors were started merely to give Markle’s haters more ammunition.

It isn’t surprising, then, that Fox News asked Trump what he would think of a Markle 2024 campaign.

“I hope that happens,” he said. “Because if that happened, I think I’d have an even stronger feeling toward running.”

In a year where everyone is continuing to gang up on Markle for the audacity to marry into royalty and not be everyone’s ideal image of a prince’s wife, it only makes sense that America’s ex-president would eventually have something negative to add to the conversation, so he continued:

“I’m not a fan of hers. I think that what she talks about, the royal family and the Queen—I happen to think, I know the Queen, as you know. I met with the Queen, and I think the Queen is a tremendous person. And I am not a fan of Meghan.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has had something less than kind to say about Markle. Back in 2019, he referred to her as “nasty” when he found out she was among those who said she would move to Canada if he became president during his first campaign.

And no one seems surprised that he’s using the rumor of her running to rile up his own base.

A Trump/Markle run-off in 2024 doesn’t seem like a timeline we’ll actually be dealing with, but then again, stranger things have happened.
