Bareburger Insta Calls Employees “Leeches” For Taking Unemployment Benefits

There is a certain kind of employer who has been complaining a whole lot about stimulus bills and extended unemployment, and they’re the kind of employer whose business model depends on paying desperate people a ridiculously low wage. That’s right, restaurants!

Many owners and managers have found it hard to hire people in the middle of a pandemic to a job that pays less than minimum wage and which exposes them to COVID-19 far more than most forward-facing jobs. How odd.

Relatively small burger franchise Bareburger seems to be harboring someone at the top who has nothing but contempt for restaurant workers who won’t stick their neck out to keep the burgers flipping. A series of messages on a Philly Bareburger Instagram account have been causing a lot of drama on the Internet.

Shots of the posts and stories that have since been deleted were screenshot by Twitch streamer @thesiegem4n, in which Barebuger seems to be threatening any employees who won’t return to work with a reporting, saying, “Hey Leaches: Your free ride is over! All former employees are hereby ordered to return to work immediately or face losing benefits. If we offered a job and you declined we will be reporting you!”

And explains that they’re paying people $5 and hour plus tips to work the front of house.

“Can everyone PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH US,” one reads. “Nobody wants to work rn when they can lazily collect Unemployment Benefits and a stimulus. Our manager just got COVID and we have no staff!”

Wow, why wouldn’t they jump on that?

On a post that the Daily Dot reports has been deleted, some people actually pushed back on Bareburger’s claims, saying that the company was not offering a living wage and THAT is why people won’t return to work. Whoever was running the account responded with some rude insults about the commenter’s art school degree, so I guess a little Internet stalking went down, too.

Other screenshots of the Instagram account, which has since been deleted, showed commenters criticizing Bareburger for not “offering a living wage.”

One commenter responded to this mess by writing, “LMFAOOOOOOO the comments show how bad this place is to work at.. can only imagine how unsafe the food is! I will surely never eat here.”

“It’s burgers not prime rib,” Bareburger answered.

“All meat requires safety? Are you insane?” that person answered to which Bareburger disgustingly answered, “Except the ones ya mans throws in ya I’m guessing. You take that raw but not our burgers? What a hypocrite.”

That’s… disgusting. And people were disgusted. Bareburger Philly defended themselves by saying, “This is the cheeky Twitter responses that people love from Brands. Are you even familiar with social media or do they not teach that in Feminism 101 at Liberal Arts College.”

Whoever was behind the typewriter was having a real normal one.

The main Bareburger Twitter account noticed how all hell was breaking loose, and hopped online to say that the Philly IG account is not official. They also claimed the rude, hateful account was hacked.

“We apologize for everything said on the hacked account,” they wrote. “And for any malicious DM’s that were received.”

Man, I bet whoever was posting was in the DMs, going buckwild. No one is really buying this “hacked” excuse. It seems much more likely an actual employee or manager at Bareburger in Philly was just popping off on Instagram because they can’t get anyone to work there. An actual hacker would probably handle the situation better than they did.

Whoever they are, I’d say they’re probably not working at Bareburger anymore, except the place clearly needs its staff.
