There is no one better at being themselves in mainstream music than rapper Lil Nas X. After coming out as a gay man in 2019, Lil Nas X has been more and more open about his sexual identity and he gives absolutely no f-cks about what anyone thinks.

This has culminated in the absolutely incredible video for his song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”

When the video was released, he posted an open letter to his 14-year-old self, using his birth name Montero Lamar, and telling him that even though they were afraid to come out at one point, living authentically was what they needed to do:
Conservatives are openly bigoted towards the LGBTQ+ community, period, but in the case of the Montero video, they were able to claim that Lil Nas X was courting the devil and that’s why they’re mad.
Right-wingers went nuts over the images of Satan in the video, which tied in with a shoe Lil Nas X developed with a company called, MSCHF, according to HuffPost.

There were only 666 editions of the shoes made, and each pair is being sold for $1,018. There’s a drop of human blood in an air bubble on each show, a pentagram medallion on the laces, and a Bible verse on the wide that reads, “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.”
Absolutely devilish, especially the price.
Well, Lil Nas X has heard his critics and he offered an apology on YouTube titled “Lil Nas X Apologizes for Satan Shoe” in which he appears, holding one of his sneakers.

“I see everybody’s been talking about this shoe and I just wanna say…” he starts, before the video jumps to the scene from Montero where he is breaking his back in the devil’s lap.
This man is sent from heaven, I don’t care what that video says.
While he does seem to enjoy trolling the Christian conservatives, Lil Nas X is not without mercy. He posted an alternative shoe for them on Twitter, one which features the Chick-fil-A logo:
