Senator John Cornyn Suggests Biden Isn’t “Really In Charge” Because He Doesn’t Tweet Like Trump

Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas recently retweeted a Politico article talking about how the Biden administration is more concerned with policy than with tweets and trotting the president out in front of cameras, which the author painted as a good thing.

Cornyn, however, took a couple of lines from the article’s setup and copy-pasted them without quotation marks into follow-up tweets in a setup for his own line that seems to echo Q Anon conspiracy theories:

“Invites the question: is he really in charge?” Cornyn asked.

The tweet leading up to this comes directly from Politico, not John Cornyn’s brain.

“The president is not doing cable news interviews,” wrote Eugene Daniels. “Tweets from his account are limited and, when they come, unimaginably conventional. The public comments are largely scripted. Biden has opted for fewer sit down interviews with mainstream outlets and reporters.”

Before President Trump, if you can remember a time before then, it was normal for presidents to limit their public appearances, interviews, and give largely scripted comments. President Obama also limited his tweets to conventional and uncontroversial statements, and not long before that, of course, Twitter didn’t exist. Remember that world?

Regardless, Cornyn appears to be suggesting that because Biden doesn’t tweet out his random opinions at all hours like Trump used to, he’s not “really in charge.” Others, including Politico, have simply assumed that Biden is too busy being the President of the United States to have much time for things like Twitter and calling in to Fox News whenever he gets mad.

A White House reporter also brought up Cornyn’s comments to Press Secretary Jen Psaki, who had a trademark Psaki deadpan response.

“I can confirm the president does not spend his time tweeting conspiracy theories, and spends his time working on behalf of the American people,” she said.

Many have also noted that there are others who have pushed the idea that Biden isn’t “really” in charge of the executive office, and those others subscribe to the widespread conspiracy cult known as Q Anon. The followers of this “movement” have often pushed the idea that either Donald Trump or some kind of shadowy deep state figure are the true masters behind the office of the president right now, and that at some point, Trump will rise up and arrest a bunch of people and save America, or something like that.

At the very least, Cornyn appears to be pushing the idea that someone else is holding the reins in this administration. This could be coming from the idea that Biden is cognitively impaired or incompetent because of his age, which has led some on the right to speculate that Vice President Kamala Harris is meant to replace him and will be doing that any day now.

Whatever the motivation behind this suggestion, people who were not fans of Trump’s style of being president don’t appreciate the suggestion that because Biden is acting like a normal one, he’s not doing his job. And while they’re at it, they would like to know why Senator John Cornyn is tweeting rather than doing his job.
