Pat Robertson, known for being one of the worst examples of bigoted right-wing televangelist preachers, confused the public today by coming out against the pattern of violence among U.S. police and condemned accused murderer Derek Chauvin.

On a recent episode of The 700 Club, Robertson and his co-host Terry Meeuwsen were talking about the killing of Daunte Wright by Kim Potter, comparing an average pistol with a standard-issue taser, wondering how the two could be confused by a trained officer.

“Now how she made the difference, when she shot that poor guy to death, saying this is what I thought was my taser,” said while taking both gun and taser in his hands. “And if you can’t tell the difference in the feel of those things, it’s crazy!”

Following this, Robertson went on a bit of a rant condemning police violence and while clarifying that he is “pro-police” and claiming that we need cops, he named other examples and called on them to stop before their reputation is completely destroyed.
“You know the police in Virginia picked up a lieutenant in the Army and began to give him trouble, and our state police are highly trained, but why they don’t stop this, and this thing that’s going on in Minnesota with the Derek Chauvin,” he said. “I mean they ought to put him under the jail. He has caused so much trouble by kneeling on the death of George Floyd, his neck, it’s just terrible what’s happening.”
People are speculating on what Robertson meant when he said that Chauvin should be put “under the jail.” On the one hand, this could be taken to mean that Robertson thinks the former police officer should get the death penalty, but it could also be another example of the aging preacher stumbling over his words.

Either way, Pat Robertson is clearly fed up with the police killing and brutalizing people, and if this guy says it’s bad, then it must be really, really bad.
“And the police, why don’t they open their eyes to what the public relations are, they’ve got to stop this stuff!” he says at the end of the clip.
People aren’t quite sure what to make of the new “woke Pat Robertson,” justifiably suspicious after all the decades of him saying terrible things, but one thing is for sure — they still know how to make jokes.
