After years of being the annoying one on The View, fueling controversy with her conservative views and general ignorance as she attempted to keep her name relevant, Meghan McCain (daughter of John McCain, in case you forgot) is resigning from the show. She has made the official decision to leave at the end of the current season in July, citing her family’s recent move to Washington D.C. and the birth of her daughter Liberty.

This announcement follows some significant backlash against McCain for claiming that Joe Biden is going to be in big trouble with God for his support of abortion rights (he’s not, for the record). However, considering how often McCain gets dragged all over the internet for repeating right-wing talking points on the show, it seems unlikely that this alone has much to do with her resignation.

“I am here to tell all of you, my wonderful co-hosts and the viewers at home, that this is going to be my last season here at ‘The View,’” she said. “I will be here through the end of July to finish out the season with all of you, which I am grateful for. This was not an easy decision. It took a lot of thought and counsel and prayer and talking to my family and my close friends.”

McCain took time off from the show in 2020 to care for her new baby and reportedly found it difficult to return while clearly having not been missed by her co-hosts.

“So it’s been such a rough reentry back into ‘The View,’” McCain told Andy Cohen in January. “I had a really hard time getting back to work. I thought I would be back to work by the election … It’s just been a lot.”

Left-wing fans of The View and critics of McCain alike are happy to see her go, taking to Twitter in order to make jokes about her frequent mention of her father, her weird hairstyles, and all the various stupid and annoying things she has done and said over the years.
