The year 2020 and its aftermath has been hard on almost everyone in one way or another. The pandemic, which is not yet over, was particularly hard on the 3.3 million dead worldwide and their families, as well as those who lost jobs, businesses, homes, and any sense of safety they might have still been clinging to.

But Gwyneth Paltrow, according to multiple news outlets, got so low at one point that she ate bread. No, seriously.

“I drank alcohol during quarantine,” Paltrow said to The Mirror. “I was drinking seven nights a week and making pasta and eating bread. I went totally off the rails. I mean, who drinks multiple drinks seven nights a week? Like, that’s not healthy.”

She might not be wrong about the alcohol, but the fact that “making pasta and eating bread” on a regular basis represents a low period for the actress didn’t sit right with the millions in the U.S. alone who were food insecure even before the pandemic struck. The overwhelming sentiment appears to be that Paltrow is giving of real “let them eat cake” vibes with this one.

Perhaps an even worse headline than the one from The Mirror, which highlight’s Paltrow’s “Goop quinoa whiskey cocktails,” was a tweet from The Guardian asking people to share their own lowest points from the worst parts of the pandemic, like when close to 4,000 people were dying every day in the U.S. Thousands of people stopped by to share their stories of loved ones dying, being a healthcare worker and watching people die daily, and suffering through severe cases of COVID-19 themselves, not knowing if they would survive.

The result was something of a massacre.
