An unexpected twist in the anti-vaxxer sideshow may get the vaccine adverse to stay away from the rest of us thanks to their conspiracy theory that people who have received the shot for COVID can “shed” genetic material that the unvaccinated can pick up in they’re in close proximity. They believed that this could result in even the most dedicated anti-vaxxers experiencing side effects like menstrual irregularity, miscarriage, and infertility.

These side effects very likely don’t exist and neither does the “shedding” of the bits of genetic material from the coronavirus onto other people, but don’t be so quick to correct them, because they may be finally ready to do social distancing and even mask up.

According to a VICE report, known anti-vaxxers on Twitter as well as forums and websites like 4chan are warning each other to stay away from people they know have been vaccinated. Unfortunately for them, as millions more people get the vaccine every week, it’s going to be difficult for them to know who is and isn’t potentially shedding virus bits into the air.

This has led some to bite the bullet and admit that they might finally have to wear masks out in public. This is particularly hilarious considering the vast overlap between anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, and COVID-deniers.
If they don’t finally submit to the mask, they at least seem genuinely dedicated to socially distancing. Stories have begun to spread of anti-vaxxers shunning family members who have received the vaccine because they have bought into the false “shedding” conspiracy theory. Already, a private school in Florida has alerted staff that they will not be allowed near children if they get the COVID vaccine and a summer camp in New York has banned anyone vaccinated from attending or working there.

Another prominent anti-vaxxer, Larry Palevsky, is not only spreading this latest conspiracy theory but has suggested the exact thing that folks like him were fretting would happen to people who refused the COVID vaccine. In a recent livestream, he suggested that vaccinated people should “have a badge on their arms that say ‘I’ve been vaccinated even though it’s not a vaccine’ so that we know to avoid them on the street, to not go near them anywhere in society.’”
That’s a whole lot of arm badges, as more than 107 million Americans are already fully vaccinated, and that number rises daily.
Regardless, vaccinated and soon-to-be vaccinated people are rather pleased at the idea of anti-vaxxers staying away from them at all costs and are encouraging them to do so.
